Zombies

I crept up behind a parked car and glanced over to the other side of the deserted street. What genius placed the toolshed at the other side of the street? But then again, none of the school layouts ever made any sense. I looked towards either side of the street. No, I was not expecting a car to speed down the empty street. Today I am looking out for something more sinister. I quickly ran across the street towards the toolshed, just like every other damned room in this school, even the toolshed is left unlocked. Seriously, who is the maintenance man anyway?
I tried to open the door, it creaked and my heart leapt. I paused, looking over my shoulders towards the large gates of the school. Everything was silent, this is probably the first time in my life that I hate the silence. I glanced up to the sky, the sun was on the horizon and the sky was tinted orange. What a beautiful sight. Not like it mattered anymore. I opened the doors just enough to make room for me to wiggle inside, got in and shut the door. I took out my smartphone from my pocket, turned on the flashlight and shined the light inside. Something glimmered, and my eyes fell on the object I've been looking for, an Axe. I grabbed the handle of the Axe and gave it a wide swing, it was heavy but nothing I couldn't handle. I sat down on the old trunk that was placed beside a wall, with the Axe resting on my lap, I closed my eyes while resting my head towards the wall.

It all started when a couple of "people" barged in through the school main gates. I was sitting on a stone bench placed by the lawn, dreaming of myself as a character from my favourite anime. I am kind of a loner in my class, never had any friends. So whenever we were sent out to the ground for Games period, I would sit on that bench and start dreaming of anime. It was the same today when suddenly I heard screams coming from the main gates. I rushed to see what was happening, a crowd had already gathered by then. I made my way to the front of the crowd when I saw that horrific scene.
A class 5 student had been lying on the ground, an adult hovering over the body, with a dark red liquid covering them both. It was blood, there was no mistaking it was blood. I looked around, everyone was too shocked to move. Another scream, a girl this time and suddenly the adult, who appeared to be "eating" the dead student looked up, and I almost shat my pants. His face, no his entire skin had turned yellow, his eyes bulging with a dead glance and his mouth... covered with fresh blood with his canine teeth growing out of his grin like that of a hungry animal.
Before I could think, my body had started to run back towards the school building. And I saw from the corner of my eyes, I wasn't the only one. I dared to glance back, and saw that "person" had another successful hunt and was feasting happily. I was disgusted, but not nauseous, I'm exposed to too much gore in the form of video games, you can say I was hardened.

Without thinking, I ran up the stairs. I saw the others rush into classrooms and shut the door behind them. I was different, I shot up the next set of stairs, then the next and the final one. I arrived on the roof and shut the stairways door and locked it up. I headed straight to the side overlooking the ground and looked down. He was not there and there already was 4 bodies lying on the ground. I heard more screams, but I didn't worry much. There's no other way to arrive at the roof other than the one I just entered through. Then something caught my eye. It was the body of the class 5 student that was attacked first. His legs had started moving, then his hands. As I continued watching in horror, I saw the dead guy come back to life, stand up and run towards another fresh kill.

Then it hit me, I've watched too many movies and played too many games to not know what was happening. It was clear, it was a zombie apocalypse.
I smiled because I knew exactly how to survive in a situation like this, thanks to all those hours I've spent gaming. I knew the first thing I've got to do is find a weapon, my eyes fell upon the old toolshed across the street. I was damn sure there would be an Axe in there and it would suffice until I find a gun. But I can't head out now, the zombies are still down there, still hunting. I could hear the screams of those poor souls who unwittingly trapped themselves in those tiny classrooms. I would have to wait. Wait till the screaming subsides. Wait till those monsters realize there is no more fresh meat in the building. Wait till they move out of the school in search of more food. And so I waited.
It was only after many hours did they finally move out of the school. By then the sun had started to set. I carefully opened the iron doors leading to the stairs and paused. Fishing for any strange sounds, everything was eerily silent. I slowly made my way down the stairs. The corridors were empty, walls everywhere was splashed with blood. Still wet still dripping. Doors to every classroom were destroyed. As I arrived at the final set of stairs, my heart skipped a beat. There, at the foot of the stairs, was a zombie. Blankly looking towards the other side. I was paralyzed by fear, but then I noticed, the zombie was just sitting there without much movement. I made a gamble, I loosened up my limbs and started moving, in a distant, aimless, lifeless kind of way. Exactly like those zombies in movies. And I managed to slowly walk right past the stupid zombie.
BINGO! Those numbskulls can't even differentiate between humans and zombies.I continued moving in the same manner, through the school ground, towards the main gates and finally out of it. Then I crept up behind a parked car.

I opened my eyes to the sound of a rattling tin can. I glanced at the time on my smartphone. I've been sitting there for 15 mins now. It was important to always stay on the move during a zombie apocalypse. I got up from the place I've been sitting on, my stomach grumbled. I remembered I never got to eat lunch. I decided to look for some food next, once I get out of this dusty toolshed that is. I walked up to the doors of the toolshed. Tightened my grip on the Axe handle and with an audible sigh opened the doors with a loud creak.

Then my heart stopped.
Hundreds of zombies were running towards the toolshed.

The Pain

I used to call him "Dad" before all of this began. Now, that word simply refuses to come out of my mouth. I've been slapped, had burning coffee thrown over me, punched, locked up in my room for weeks. But none of them compared to what he did to me today.  As usual, he came home drunk. But unlike other days, today he barged into my room directly. It scared me to death. The look in his eyes told me, I'll have to go through hell again today. He came towards me, grabbed me by my hair and threw me onto the bed. That's when I realized what is about to happen to me. I tried to beg, he wouldn't listen. There was this strange grin on his face and the smell of alcohol. He ripped out my clothes, I started to fight. I couldn't though, he was too strong. He always was. What followed next was 15 minutes of horror. All I can remember is the pain and the smell of alcohol. The pain emanating from my lower body was immense, but I couldn't groan. I was in a sho...

The Crash

I wasn't sure where I was heading, I only knew that I had to get away from that place. As I hurried past those strangers, I broke into a sprint. I felt a sharp pang in between my breasts and felt the warm trickle of tears flowing down my cheeks. From the blurry view, through my tear filled eyes, I vaguely saw a huge object apparate in front of me. I couldn't stop myself, I was moving too fast. CRASH! I hit the huge tree and fell flat on my back. The pain arising out of my broken nose was nowhere near to the pain emerging from my broken heart. I wasn't able to hold it in much longer. I screamed, at the top of my lungs.  Once, twice, thrice soon my howls of pain turned into sobs. As if empathizing with my pain, the heavens opened up and the rain started to pour down on me. I must have looked crazy to the people passing by me as I lay there on the street crying in the rain. I didn't care. The worst had happened. Right now, I need this. I need to cry out loud un...

The Pizza Place

This is where I met him the first time, this restaurant. I love pizza or rather I love the pizza from this place. I love it so much that, it's my routine to come down here every Friday night, grab my favorite cheese and pepperoni pizza and sit at the table by the window facing the street. On that day though, as I went to the table, I noticed him sitting at my usual table, He had half eaten his pizza, so I thought I would wait for him to finish by sitting at the neighboring table. As I sat there and waited for him to finish his pizza, I noticed he was eerily similar to me. Although his choice of pizza didn't suit my taste, he would just sit there, watch the street through the window as he slowly enjoyed his pizza. Even though I finished my delicious pizza, he never left the table. So I went home rather disappointed that day. The same thing continued for the next few weeks though, I would get my pizza, go by my favorite table, see him there and would wait for him to vacate....
